Thomas Juul-Hansen, the New York-based Danish architect, has on his portfolio some of the priciest apartments in the big city. Recognized as one of the designers of the moment, Thomas is scoring high-profile projects in Manhattan’s wealthiest zip codes.

He received his bachelor of architecture from the University of Miami and a master of architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Thomas Juul-Hansen starts his career working with iconic Richard Meier and partners architects in New York, But it wasn’t till 2003 that he founded Thomas Juul-Hansen, LLC.

1. Chelsea High Line

The new addition to the high line district in West Chelsea features two ten-story buildings enveloping both sides of the elevated linear park. Celebrating the rebirth of the historic railway, Thomas Juul-Hansen used two vertical structures that seemingly float above the refined glass and dark metal podium, intersecting through a joint entry lobby spanning directly below the high line. The lobby exposes and reengages raw elements of the high line, featuring an expansive skylight highlighting the underside skeleton of the infrastructure and original columns that puncture through the entry interiors. All materials selected for the structure assimilate the vernacular of the high line and are derived to facilitate a notion of timelessness. Additionally, each of the eight-foot-long casement windows is alternately angled to maximize views and retain privacy while allowing abundant light to flood the space and afford views of the Hudson River, midtown, and the Chelsea skyline.

2. Columbus Circle

The gut renovation of the sixty-four seat by Thomas Juul-Hansen, three Michelin star chef’s dining room located in Trump International Hotel Central Park was completed in seven days. All components including furnishings, carpet, window treatment, and light fixtures were custom-designed for jean George’s main dining room.

3. Upper East Side

The nineteen story, fifteen unit condominium building explores the notion of timeless modernity through the mediation between old and new gotham in the historic Upper East Side. Elongated proportions on the facade employ fluted solid limestone panels with oversized windows, offering residences the benefits of a glass building while retaining the privacy of a pre-war structure. Featuring full-floor apartments with direct elevator entry, unit sizes vary from 20 ft ceiling townhouses with a private garden, three to four bedroom residences, duplexes and a triplex penthouse.

4. Soho

A boutique condominium developed by Thomas Juul-Hansen for the interiors of the Kohn Peterson Fox designed construct. The soft sensibility and modern simplicity found within the interiors of the sixteen residences work in contrast with the steel facade amidst the historic cast-iron district of Soho. Each unit features entry vestibules with direct elevator access; the building includes a duplex penthouse with a roof pool.

5. Chelsea High Line

All layouts and interior designs of the fourteen story building designed by architect neil denari are executed by Thomas Juul-Hansen, LLC. The unconventional building form situated on the historic elevated railway bay influenced the interior layouts for each of the unique eleven residences. HL23 demonstrates the first example of multiple condominium designs for TJH, including nine full-floor residences with two duplex units. Each residence features a gracious entry foyer off a private elevator entrance into the living spaces. The interiors of HL23 are treated to highlight and complement the poetic notion of the building overlooking dramatic views within the west chelsea art district.

Located within the West Village glass tower facing the waterfront panoramas of the Hudson River, restaurant Perry St by chef Jean Georges Vongerichten offers warm hospitality through a hybridity of the conventional dining experience with elements of an intimate residential dining room. Custom-designed modernity is evident through material selections including a black cast resin bar top, fumed solid oak wrapped banquettes and fine upholstery in exclusive white Italian leather.

8. Pound Ridge

The renewal of the nineteenth-century inn consisted of rebuilding the exterior structure, in addition to a complete gut renovation of the interior spaces. The urbane modernism yet rustic sensibility found at the inn at pound ridge by acclaimed chef Jean Georges Vongerichten is achieved through the material selections of locally sourced barn boards and reclaimed wooden tables along with the preservation of exposed ceiling beams and leather upholstered bar banquette furnishings, all of which are custom-designed for the restaurant.

9. Tribeca

The Thomas Juul-Hansen’s project combined five individual apartments in One York to create a four-bedroom, five-bath 9,000 sq ft. A load-bearing column previously located in the center of the double-height living room was removed during construction to conceive an uninterrupted living space. The 6,000 sq ft outdoor space introduces a custom-designed sunken entertainment area of curved solid mahogany featuring a stone fire pit and a wood-slatted roof for privacy. All finishes, millwork, and built-in furnishings were custom designed for the residence.
